2002+ Camry Maintenance Tips

I stopped by the dealer today to find out what needs to be done at 120k miles and how to do it. Things are not as straight forward as they might be since the Haynes manual, while expected to be out soon, is not yet available. Here is what I've learned.

  1. Change the serpentine belt - the tensioning pully on the four cylinder engine is controlled by a 19mm bolt. This bolt can be seen from the engine compartment and is located just to the right (~2") of the idler/tensioning pulley. Use a breaker bar because this thing is apparently a bit difficult to rotate. Once rotated, the pully is easy to remove and replace just like other cars.

  1. Change the spark plugs - Spark plugs are located under the plastic cosmetic valve cover on the top of the engine. Remove the plastic cover, remove the individual coils over each plug, then remove and replace the plugs.

  2. Change the transmission fluid - standard procedure

  1. Change the differential fluid - apparently, the differential fluid is different from tranny fluid according to this mechanic. (I'll have to confirm that.)

  2. Change the radiator fluid - enough said

  1. Change the fuel filter - I have not looked for this yet, it's probably under the car tucked up near a frame rail -- TBD.

Hope that helps. Many happy miles.
