2003 Camry XLE Tires

I have Michelin MXV4+ which came with with my 2003 Camry XLE. I have done regular tire rotation and only have 25000 on the tires and they need to be replaced. Should I replace them with another set of Michelins or should I try another brand?

Take your car in for an alignment check / adjust before you put on new tires. Also, if the outter edges are bald with plenty of tread in the center, start running your pressure a few pounds higher.

Tony,

I just purchased a set of Michelin Hydroedge's for my 02 Camry LE (4-cyl). So far so good. Of course, I have less than 40-miles on them....

I'll put many more on them this weekend and will hopefully have more to tell you.

Steve,

I would be curious to hear your feedback about these tires. I own a 2002 Camry LE V6 and would like tires that are quiet, comfortable, and great in wet weather. I do a lot of high speed driving (100 miles daily) and tire noise would be a major concern.

Thanks

It is tough to find a tire that is great in wet weather and also very quiet. But some of the more expensive tires with expensive tread compounds will perform well.

I will be putting a new set of these on my 2002 Camry LE V6 next week. I'll be replacing the original tires (Continental Touring Contact AS). I have 27K on them but the tread is worn to a level where they have become unsafe for winter driving. I am really looking forward to seeing how these perform. It has been interesting and helpful reading these forums and other tire/toyota web sites.

See - (Yokohama Avid Touring discussion comments - almost universal praise - quiet, comfortable, great in wet weather, "ridiculous value", preferred to Michelin by some):

I read the reviews and they did not agree (overall) with what you said. This is not an H rated tire, and I would not use it on a V6 Camry, especially if someone does a lot of high speed driving.

I am not saying these tires are a poor choice for the money, but they are not the best available.

Have you identified what "BEST tire" means? Your Camry has a vehicle speed governor set between 115-120 mph which makes spending money for

160 mph tires an ego trip.

You just have an inferiority complex because my Camry V6 will destroy your Corolla 4-banger.

Camrys, at least my 99, are well enough insulated that tire noise is irrelevant.

What about the 99 camry V6's? I thought that they were governed down to 138? What would the 2003 V6 be capable of IF the governor were deactivated?

I run 2 sets of tires for my car:

OEM tires used from May to October are Michelin Energy LX4:

Winter tires used from November to April are Nokian Hakka 1's:

Why would anyone want to drive that fast? Hard to find roads with that little traffic around here that you could sustain that speed anyway.

I live in Edmonton, Canada where the weather is a lot harsher than in Toronto and NO ONE I know switches their tires for winter. I use Uniroyal Aquatreads the year around.

Purely hypothetical question!!

Look up the exact OEM fitted tire. Look specifically for the tire speed rating. Nobody is going to fit a tire that has a lower speed rating than the ECU speed limter. Imagine the potential liabilty suits if they allowed the cars to exceed the OEM fitted tires.
