Hello Folks:
My 1987 Toyota Camry, automatic, 4 cylinder, has 172K miles and is running fine, except for the following: .
1) Brake Lights not working - found out that the brake light switch needs to be replaced. I have no choice here .. need to get this fixed, probably illegal to drive without brake lights. . 2) Occassional Grinding noise when trying to start the car - This is most likely due to starter not able to fully engage the flywheel. I have lived with this noise for the past 5 years .. not sure how much will this cost to fix . 3) AC/Heater fan does not work at the lowest speed -- this one I can live without . 4) Oil leak, about 1 qt every 1.5 months or so. The oil leaks only when I drive the car and is usually on the chassis, there is not a drop on the floor. We changed spark plugs-spark plug wires & distributor as the oil had leaked inside it and would cause engine miss problem. Now this runs fine. This leak may be expensive to fix .. I just add a qt of oil every 2 months or so . 5) Need new tires .. sometime this year. No choice here from safety perspective. . 6) Transmission fluid + filter needs to be changed. I don't recall this being changed ever since we bought the car 8 years back at 77K miles. The car runs fine and gives me good gas mileage, decent power and costs me very little otherwise to run/maintain. Body-upholstery, etc. are in nice conditions.
I'm looking for your suggestions on what should I concentrating on fixing above, considering the mileage it already has.
Thanks very much for your input. I live in San Francisco Bay area and cannot afford a new car.
