91 with idling problems

My 4 cylinder 1991 Camry has been having idling problems for the past couple months. Sometimes it idles high, and at other times it idles so low that it's on the verge of stalling. I've tried the usual, namely checking the timing and adjusting the idle adjustment screw, but to no avail. I only have the Haynes Camry manual, which is pretty basic and lacks a lot of information. Anyway, might anybody here have an idea why the car is acting this way and what I can do to correct the problem. Thanks in advance...

I had the same problem with my 98 Camry. I had the fuel injectors cleaned and the problem is gone.

Try Idle Air Control valve

A good first step would be to clean the IAC valve and throttle body with spray carb cleaner. Verify that it is O2 sensor safe. It likely will be these days.

Clean the IAC valve & the throdle valve. Check for vacuum leaks. TAKE a close look at the coil
