92 Camry LE tail light problem

Hi,

My 92 Camry LE has no reverse or tail lights whatsoever. That is, all the lights attached to the trunk do not work at all. I checked the bulbs and they are all good. Also, I checked the fusebox and the tail fuse looks fine as well. There is moisture that gets into that area when it rains (and I live in Seattle) but the wires seem to be fairly well insulated.

Any recomendations on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

Alex

I had that in a car once. The trailer connection socket was shorting across the metal cover flap.

You need to inspect the wiring harness that runs along the trunk hinge. Continual flexing can damage the wires - some are quite thin. You need to carefully cut open the enclosing plastic cover, solder in new wires and seal the connections with shrink wrap insulation, then tape it back up. I've done this twice now. The second time I spliced all the wires instead of only the damaged few, and also coiled the new wire around a screwdriver first to enhance flexibility - they wound up (no pun intended) looking like phone cord at the headset.

Thanks! This was exactly the problem.
