92 Camry XLE burning oil smell

There is a noticeable but slight burning oil smell. The car runs fine otherwise (e.g. startup, acceleration, etc).

What are some of the possible causes of this and how fixable are they?

Obviously the oil is leaking onto something hot. It could be leaking from any of a number of places, notably one or more of the gaskets. Your car is a '92, so the gaskets have shrunk over time.

Of course, the engine compartment is probably dirty -- the easy way is to clean it and try to find leaking.

Of course #2 -- you don't know what kind of oil [engine, trans/differential].

The valve cover gasket was replaced and seems to have resolved the problem.

Good. I love it when a leak is fixed.
