95 - shaky at idle - 4cyl - 60Kmiles

When the car is warm and in drive at the stoplight, the car shakes a little. I had the computer reset and the mechanic said he can manually adjust the idle a 100-200 rpms or so until the shaking goes away.

The car runs great otherwise.

Is there anything to look for?

What does it idle at. A tune up would likely cure it

They all do that.

------- Adding Redline complete fuel system cleaner may help if you keep using it through the miles. (read label directions for continuous use) Be sure to check the "dog bone" engine moving control rod near the top of the engine connecting to the passenger side strut tower. Look for signs of cracking in the rubber isolator and replace the part if needed to protect the more expensive front and rear engine mounts from additional stress. A variety of smaller items, spark plug wires, timing belt aging and minor stretch, PCV valve, etc., can contribute, but primarily it is the design of the four cylinder engine. Toyota sets the electronically controlled idle to maximize fuel economy, and with four cylinders they fire only once per 180 degrees of crankshaft rotation, so at low idle speed, under load from the torque converter slippage, there is some vibration. My mileage is more than double yours, but by keeping all mechanical items in top condition, the vibration is usually quite mild and not objectionable.

I have close to the same model ('96) and it doesnt shake at idle,..in fact the engine is very firmly mounted.

One thing I have noticed is on the road as the car is slowing (no braking, just foot off throttle) the engine does transmit a slight hi-freuency vibration into the body,

If yours has marked vibration at idle,..I'd be checking things like engine mounts, try to rock the motor with your hands, engine off,.. you should be able to move it less than 1/4".

The first line below the 1000RPM mark on the OEM Tach.

It has been tuned, and motor mounts replaced.

My '96 (same car) idles at those same revs, unless the AC is on,..then it idles slightly over 1000 rpm..
