AC questions - refrigerants and sealants

The AC in my 91 camry slowly went out over the course of last summer (first it would only cool only after not running for a while, then not at all). Recently a class at the local community college recharged it just enough to determine that the leak was coming from the evaporator. It has been a few weeks since the recharge and the AC is still working pretty well which leads me to believe I have a fairly small leak. I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know about those $ 50 leak sealants ( ie super seal premium or supercool leak stop) and if they work at all? 2) When the system was recharged I was told they put in R-134a. Im guessing this is ok since the AC works now but I thought it took R-12. Is this a problem and do I need to tell anyone who works on my AC what kind of refrigerant it currently contains?

================================== Leak sealants can plug up your system causing expensive damage. It is recommended never to use them. R-134a does not belong in your system. It should not be mixed with R-12. Your system does use R-12, and anyone who works on it professionally, should already know that. The correct procedure would be to evacuate the refrigerant to get out the 134a that doesn't belong in there, after doing a leak test, and repair the faulty component. Could be as simple as one leaking hose fitting.

IF they put R134 into your R12 system prepare for major repair. First You will need to tell the repair shop so that their equipment is not contaminated. You will need to do a complete system flush, replace the dryer & maybe even the compressor. DO NOT USE ANY SEALANTS in the air cond system
