Blower Resistor in AC/Heater Circuit

My AC/heater blower on my 1998 Camry LE works on either Max setting or not at all. From the electrical diagrams it appears that the most likely probable cause is that the fuse that is either part of or mounted on the Blower Resistor assembly is blown. The Electrical book further tells me that the BR assembly is somewhere behind the passenger side panel. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Does anyone know if the fuse alone is replaceable, or must I replace the entire BR assembly?
  2. It's not obvious to me what the BR assembly looks like, and after removing the lower passenger side panel I don't see anything that is obviously it. The output wire is supposed to be B/W, the same as the input to the blower to which it connects. I can see the latter but not the BR assembly. Can anyone give me a description of BR assembly?
  3. Finally, does anyone know if I'll have to remove the glove box to get at it? Thanks. Chuck

'98 is out of my realm; I am familiar with '80's models, but:

Generally the BR is mounted IN the fan under the dash. It looks like three springs mounted to a PCB. You usually have to pull the fan from under the dash (it can be a bitch, mostly...) and is inside the blower cage that comes out. But, on a '98 I may be wrong, although people in the toyota group with '91's to '95's have mentioed the same thing.

If they offloaded it from the cage, my guess would be, as the diagram shows, under the pass side kick panel. It my still be as mentioed; a PCB with three things that look like springs on them.

The reason for keeping them near the fan itself is that they carry a fair amount of current, and being mounted next to the 'squirrel cage' they are kept cool. I bet if you find it, the PCB will look slightly burnt...

Good luck...

Thanks for the input. One question: PCB is what? Power Circuit Breaker? P? Connector Block?

I am guessing printed circuit board maybe?
