Camry Hybrid

I just bought a new Camry Hybird 2 weeks ago. When you buy a new car (at least in NJ), you pay up front for 3 years worth of registration fees. The dealership called me this morning to tell me that my registration and plates were there, and that I owed them an additional $100.00. When I asked what for, she said that it's more expensive to register a Hybrid, and I was only charged to register a "regular " car. Is this true? It's Saturday, and I can't call the DMV to verify.

Thanks in advance for any/all replies!

Looks like it is a 4 year fee, not 3 year - but the only thing mentioned about hybrids is that you can use the turnpike's HOV lane.

does a 4 year advance registration fee on new vehicles. The registration fee is based on the vehicle's weight.

the important point is that it is an extra $25/year to register acar that is over 3500 lbs as opposed to under 3500 lbs. The Camry's curb weight is listed at:

Camry hybrid's curb weight is 3650 lbs, while the non-hybridversions are 3263-3373 lbs. So, yes, the registration fee would be alittle higher for the hybrid Camry, because it is over the 3500lbtrigger point while the non-hybrid Camrys are less than the 3500lbtrigger point. (It's not a higher fee because it's a hybrid, butbecause the vehicle is heavier.) So, for the extra weight class @ $25/year, times the 4 year advanced fee schedule in NJ, that would be an extra $100 that you'd owe the state.
