changing O2 sensor?

Check engine light went on and local garage says that the "bank-1" oxygen sensor is faulty, in addition to some "vent solenoid", presumambly around the gas filler cap area. New law requires these to be addressed prior to performing the smog test. Resetting the computer has not worked, light still comes on.

Car is a 1999 Solara V6 with 59,000 miles.

Are there any tricks I should know about changing the O2 sensor other than wiring the harness correctly? (Bosch replacement sensor).

Any thoughts on what a "vent solenoid" is and what/where to look for?

TIA
