Cut Glove compartment to reach blower

Need to reach blower fan on '98 Camry.

On my other Cam, as well as my corolla and tercel, basically you press in the sides of the glovebox until the plastic pegs disengage from the surrounding dash slots and then the box drops down.

Can only get the driver side peg (left) to disengage this way. The other side will not, although I am sure it is close.

Was thinking an easy solution would be to saw off flush that right- side peg as the box is compressed to max. I am sure it isn't much more left there.

I also figure that there will be enough peg left that when I let it all loose, it will work fine. If not, not a big deal to cement a small piece of PVC or something on the end of the peg....

However, wife does not like my "hillbilly solution" Don't know why she has to insult hillbillies, but, I digress....anyway....any thoughts?

Any other easy way to get to the blower fan without disassembling half the dash....?

The glove compartment is held with I think 5 screws or something like that. No need for all the cutting.

However, if you just look under the passenger side console and pull a flat access cover may be all you need to take out the motor -- haven't tried it but blow resistor can be accessed that way.

If you must remove the compartment the plastic foot trim on right covers one of the bolts. So a screwdriver and a 10mm socket is all you need really

Thanks for the help, Found the final screw wedged under the floor plate and a second side panel plate. There was also a wiring harness that needed to be unsnapped from the top of the Glove Box.

Anyway, needed to gain access to the actual inside of the blower fan to remove a mouse corpse. Fun...but someone had to do it....

Was the mouse mummified? Or still fresh?

For WIW, it's from last Monday (Feb. 4). Knew a mouse had been in the works from the rush of shredded paper. And knew something was in the blower fan from the wierd sound it started making. But did not have any time to really tackle anything until yesterday (2-10-08)..Most I have ever recovered was four...but that was in my Tercel.

BTW, guess I ought to note that the reason the right side peg would not come out of the dash to allow me to lower the glovebox door is that the hydralic lift assist arm is screwed into that peg....Of course you can't see that until you remove the whole assembly, so good thing I did not cut it.

Also, the wiring set at the top of the box is apparently the wiring for the passenger airbag, so you want to be a little gentle.....
