emmisions test - DLC cover

I'm getting an emissions test for my 2003 (4-cyl) Camry. For the first time, they are going to use the DLC. I am supposed to uncover the DLC prior to arriving at the facility, but I haven't the foggiest idea where it is or what it looks like (and I lost my manual in a move last year). I called the local Toyota dealer and they told me to come in and buy a manual.

I tried searching the group, but I only found info on the 1996 Camry (behind the coin cup and somewhere in the engine compartment, probabaly by a strut tower).

Can anyone tell me where to find the DLC cover in a 2003 (4-cyl) Camry and what it looks like?

Thanks!

The connector is shaped like a trapezoid and is under the dash on the driver side, directly above your right shin as you drive pointing towards the floor if I remember correctly. I can't imagine why this is a requirement of the owner to do before having the test done, who told you this? There's just a little plastic cap covering the thing... Someone who knows how to hook a scantool up to the port and run an emissions test should have it well within their ability to locate it and take the cover off too.

Great to hear!

The requirement is on the notice sent by the state. If they have dificulty accessing it, the car will be rejected. (I guess maybe with some cars you have to remove/unscrew/unbolt something and they don't want their testers doing that?)

Thanks for the info!

Why do you have to "uncover" the DLC? Don't techs have the foggiest idea how to access it?

OBD-II DLC is required to be within 12 inches of the steering wheel, at least in the US. Under the driver console that looks like a D connector if you poke you head under the console cover looking for it.

There is also a diagnostics connector that's marked "Diagnostic" or something like that. It's the older version in the engine bay on the passenger side. Why should an owner be bothered to "uncover" this?

Are you sure you want to go to this facility? Maybe they'll require you to operate the emissions machine yourself?

Sorry, I meant to give an update right after I got back from the emissions test.

You guys were right, I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. This was my first emissions test since I moved to this state and it was the first time they were going to access the computer. Plus, my notice ended up at my neighbor's place, who waited for 3+ weeks to mention it and bring it over, so I felt rushed and concerned that everything would go right. I guess that's why I took all that legal, CYA stuff they put on the notice to heart.

It was a no-brainer. It is a state facility (run by contractors). The guy told me to get out. (There is a chair a couple feet away.) He stuck a cable under the dash (I didn't see him remove any cover), looked at his hand-held device for a minute or two, pulled the cable, and told me to get back in. It took longer for the report to print.

Thanks.
