Hood Latch Stuck on 90 Camry

Sorry, I just posted this to the toyota group, I didn't realize there was a Camry specific group.

I have a 1990 Camry wagon that I love, but currently can't open the hood. This is a problem because the car leaks oil and I'm becoming scared of driving it.

When I pull on the lever, there is no resistance, but I tried pulling the wire itself with a pair of pliers from within the car and the cable

didn't seem to be completely lose (I wasn't able to pull the broken cable into the car).

I have removed the grille and can't see any way to access the cable at the latch to pull it and have removed the bolts holding the latch to the car, but the lbody of the latch catches as I try to lift the hood, so I'm only able to open it about an inch.

I have also tried to push the catch on the latch over, but spent about an hour doing this and stopped before complete insanity set in.

Any help is greatly appreciated because I am quite seriously thinking about drilling a hole through the hood and forcing the latch open that way.

Thanks very much,

Fritz.

I've always has some success in most of these cases by going under the front bumper. Get down there and look at the latch from the bottom with a flashlight, check if you can see the cable end with the ball that hooks into the latch (its on the back of the latch assembly, thats why its so hard to get it from the front). If you can see it from under there, you might be able to get your hand or something else up there to pull the ball end of the cable or move the back part of the latch.

Pull cable-latch, and pry hood, it might be just stuck to the bumpers which ARE to low and can easily br screwed up and out since they are worn out, its a common issue with 17 yr old camrys, my unit too. Screwing up the 2 bumpers fixes it for me.
