How to buy a used Camry with an extended armrest and side air bags?

I am in the process of researching a buying a used car, and there's no question in my mind that the 1998-2001 Camrys are the best for safety and reliability for my price range.

There's only one problem, the armrest. In my last three cars (a Chevy, a Buick, and a Ford) I could rest my right elbow on the armrest and reach the steering wheel (I'm 6' 2", so perhaps long arms help). However, with the Camrys I've test driven, this hasn't been possible.

A search of google groups, turns up this "extended armrest" option. Any ideas as to how to buy a Camry with one or install one. Two local Toyota dealers say they know nothing about it.

While we're at it, any suggestions for how to find a Camry with side air bags. Are there online websites in which you can specify (Wanted:

1999 to 2001 Camry with extended armrest and side air bags) and a seller will fall from the sky? :-)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

1) sorry i don't have an answer for your question. but, i had to post becasue i found this to be interesting. i'm 6'1'' and i always rest my elbow on the armrest and still easily reach the wheel in my 98 camry. it's great for highway driving.

2) because i do that so much, i have worn a huge crack into the armrest, and i'm hoping to replace it. does anyone know where to find something like this? i keep checking ebay, but can never find the right year and color.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I have a 99 Camry LE V6 with the side airbags. The car had a "pack" of some kind that included, enhanced stereo, moonroof, driver's side 6-way power seat, alloy wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes (maybe due to v6) and the side airbags. You might look for used Camry's that have those options and see if one of them included the airbags. The airbags were an option on all models that year I believe. The dealer I bought from in southern CA had a number of V6 LEs with that exact same configuration.

Thanks-- these posts have been helpful.

Toyota-parts.com, whose website is slow but whose customer service is friendly says there is an armrest for $80 that makes it higher, by about three inches.

So I guess the question is whether or not there is any way to make the armrest longer or just higher.
