LE Rear window problems

One rear window dropped into the door - after removing the trim panel, I can see a pulley at the top of the carrier rail that presumably should have a cable running around it like I see on the bottom (at the top the cable seems to have disappeared, maybe into the tubing that it runs through, but running the motor down doesn't make it pop back out). I can't get at it without removing the window.

Can I replace just the cable, and possibly do that without having to remove the window?

If not, I'm stuck at removing the window; it won't come out without a little more room, so I need to remove the outer molding at the bottom of the window opening. My book says to "pry off the clips". Does anyone know the procedure for this? Like, do I approach them from the outside? from the inside? push them up? twist them out?

don't know what year you're working with, but the window is usually connected to the regulator with two 10mm bolts. Make sure that both of those are out. Did the window fall off the regulator, or did the regulator let go and fall with the window still attached? In any case, two bolts hold the window to the regulator. To repair anything you are going to have to take both the glass and the motor/regulator assy out.

It's a '94 LE. The window was still attached to the regulator (the thing that slides along the track), I removed those bolts, so I can pull the window up without it being attached to anything else.

The cable that pulls it up and down appears to have broken at the top, since I don't see it going over the pulley.

It seems like I have to remove the chrome and rubber trim at the bottom of the window opening on the outside to ge the glass out. Does that pry up and off from the outside?

I've never had to remove that trim, ever. If you turn the glass a bit as you pull up, you should be able to get it.

It turns out I didn't have to remove it either. Actually, I got the regulator out without even removing the window. And now I have a $60 replacement off the internet; most of the shops I went to could order the front regulators, but not the rear. We'll see how it holds up.
