Odd low speed wobble in 1990 Camry

I searched through old postings, but I couldn't find any that relate to my problem. I have a 1997 Camry that I recently replaced two motor mounts on. Soon after replacing them, I started feeling a "wobble" in the front end, probably from the driver's side, that feels exactly (to me) like a bad tire. So, I drove to my tire place to ask them to check it out. On my way there, the "wobble" went away, which I though was strange. After waiting at the tire place for a while, they checked out the car and the tires. They too found the "wobble" and found that it went away as the car was driven. They checked the tires and found that they were all in balance and were round, no slipped belts or abnormal wear. The mechanic at the tire place couldn't find any obvious problems with the suspension, CV joints, etc. either. So, he had some theories: perhaps an axle was going bad, and was sticking until the lubricant or part warmed up, or perhaps the motor mounts were not installed properly and the motor was not aligned properly. His suggestions were to start replacing parts to see what happened, or to keep driving it until something broke. I didn't like either answer. So, does anyone have any other suggestions?

When I say 1990 in the title, I really mean 1997. It's a "new math" thing. Or maybe a "can't type" thing.

You could not see the problem with my tires but replacing the fronts fixed my wobble. I switched the tires mounting and the wobble went to the other side confirming tires. Defects can not always be seen and a load is needed when belts shift, a balance machine will not show this. put the left on the right and see if it is tires, I will bet tires. It is common, tires, mine went bad at 33000m , Michelin, but I put new Michelin back on and all is fine now.

Sounds like tires to me too. Call around to shops in your area and find one that has a Hunter GSP9700 Roadforce wheel balancer. It's a really cool piece of equipment that is able to pinpoint all sorts of tire maladies including internal problems normal balancers don't show.
