Parking brake adjust '93 Camry

Hi Guys,

Have a '93 Camry with all disk brakes. The parking brake peal goes down all the way to the floor (about 6 clicks). Still holds the car, but wanted to adjust it. Light does not always go off, when released. Suspect the lines have stretched some over the years (135K miles).

Looked in the pedal area, but there are no points to adjust. In fact wanted to adj the parking brake switch, as well but do not see it - must be well hidden.

There could be an adj point where the steel cables meet, under the car, but not sure. It's covered with heat shield, being held by rusted small bolts. Wonder if I should look there for adj.

Of course the shoes themselves are somewhat adjustable, but this will not take up enough slack.

Cars that have hand actuated park brakes, have and adj in the handle mechanism.

Any hints on where to take up the slack in the parking brake lines?

=================== It is possible the cables have stretched, but seems more likely the parking brake shoes have worn and not adjusted back up. See:

you'll be looking at the section on brakes.Should cover both shoes and cable adjustment.I have drum rear brakes, and upon disassembling them found thelubricant in the star adjuster mechanism was essentially gone. Withfresh high temperature lubricant on the adjuster threads and rubbingpoints everything works very much more smoothly.

Thanks Daniel,

With rear disk brakes, the parking brake shoes are very thin. New are 2mm and min limit is 1mm. Not much range. These are still serviceable. I can adj them to "almost touch", but recommended setting is 8 click back, from lockup.

Thanks for the link to the manual.
