Peeling Leather on Steering Wheel

Hi everyone;

Long time!

Recently I noticted the leather on my 2002 Camry's steering wheel "scratched" at 2 locations. The scratches look like knife tracks; with about 5 of those at each location. This came with the cold weather here in Chicago.

Any ideas how to fix this? This got worried about the leather seats as well. Do I need to apply a certain product to them? I'm *not* looking for those rust/stain proofing services.

Thanks

Is it under warranty? If yes bring it back to the dealer. Any chance someone used Windex on the windshield and got spray on the leather? The alcohol and or ammonia can damage the leather. I did that once and fixed the problem by using a lot of leather conditioner on the steering wheel. But the leather was more like sticky.... not scratched, before I fixed it.

Thanks Art;

Now that I think of it, Windex or some other glass cleaner might have gotten to the steering wheel at the car wash.

I too have had sucess in keeping the leather pliant by using leather cleaners and leather conditioners. I have used them on seats, steering wheels, and shifters. Both Lexol and Zymol have worked fine for me.

Check leatherique.com One of the few products that can actually restore damaged leather.

You'll get as many opinions about leather maintenance products as you will about politics. They all seem about the same to me. I use a leather conditioning product made by Armorall on my Caddy. IMHO, it's as good as any other I've used or seen used. Others will swear by Lexol or Leatherique or any one of an assortment of others. FWIW YMMV DFB

Saturate it with leather conditioner and see if that fixes it. Worked for me.

I find them all good too. Some brag that they are natural but that is a joke since leather goes thru a very tough manufacturing process. I liked the old Armoral leather cleaner/conditioner that seems to be discontinued but others are just as good.
