Question for folks who had water-pump failure on their Camry

Just a question regarding anyone who had a water-pump which started leaking either slowly or suddenly lost a lot of coolant. Had the vehicle been maintained in the coolant area? Was it a second-hand purchase with dirty coolant or crud in the expansion/top up resevoir? How many miles/Ks did the vehicle have on it?

thanx, Jason

Ours went out at around 70K miles and had the most beautiful clean coolant in it you've ever saw. There was absolutly nothing that could have caused this water pump to go out. Apon examination of the water pump, it looks like the seal around the shaft between the impeller and the housing failed, then it threw all the ball bearings out from around the seal then grinded the impellers into the housing which caused a lot of water loss within two blocks of travel.

I added this to my post about the Camry Water Pump. If you decide to work on one you need the following wrench to save you a lot of time. Or at least a wrench that works like this one.

I found what I would recommend to anyone and will get one myself it's called a squeeze wrench. They range in price from 9.99 to 19.99 as seen on TV. I don't know how well they will hold up, but once you have the bolt broken lose with a real ratchet, then the tedious work can be shortened immensely by that sqeezewrench. All you have to do is a google search on squeezewrench and you'll have a jillion hits for it.
