Re: 89 Camry Challenging Electrical Problem

well it seems im not the only one having a driveability problem w\ a camry. the one i have here is a 93 w\ the same stalling-under-load problem. after changing the fuel filter (because i could also smell a "lean condition" during this stalling process),i logged on to thi site & read one fellows reply about checking the coil so i used my "spark tester" wich is installed between the spark plug and the plug wire and lights up when ther is spark present.eureka! as the motor started running poorly the spark got very week but every couple of seconds or so it would get a hot spark and run smooth for a second.so tomarrow i will price a new coil and hopefully install it and let you know what happened. does anyone know about how much a coil will cost for this thing?

Not sure but this could be your problem. There have been posts in this ng about the o-ring on the distributor shaft leaking, letting oil get into the cap and since the coil is inside the cap it causes a short or crossfire. After inspecting the inside of cap and coil for damage the fix is to clean all surfaces with denatured or rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs or q-tips. Make sure no cotton residue is left.
