Re: Check Engine Light On for 2000 Camry V6

Yes, the dealer will charge you $80 if you come in, have it diagnosed and then go elsewhere. If you have them fix it, they waive the diagnosis off.

I would worry if i had to take my car to autozone to have it scanned for codes and then have someone tell me and try to sell me an item based only on what the scanner tool says alone. that worrys me and i will tell you why? yes 1 time out of 20 its right. "but what about when its not? and its an electrical part and you have no refund and your stuck with it? some of these parts can range from

2-300$!!?.. thats the downside of not having a proper diagnoses done at autozone. now the other side of bringing it to a dealer or a good shop is proper procederes and diagnoses by that i mean car comes in with a "check engine light". from there it gets scanned for codes codes then are retrieved by the technition he in turn checks the bad circuit afterword looks up on a service manual or on a subscribed ALLDATA system the tests needed to perform and to isolate the problem that my friend is the proper way of doing things. still think 80$ is a lot. think about how much more it can cost someone else for a miss diagnosed problem somewhere else next time. just a thought ;)
