Steering wheel vibrates at low speed

Hi, I am driving a '95 Camry with 74,000 km on it.

Recently I noticed a slight vibration from side to side in the steering wheel at low speed. Once the speed picks up the vibration seems to subside.

Recently I had the CV boots done since they cracked. Could this caused the problem if the installation was not done properly? I only noticed this after the work was done.

Also after I pumped more air in the front tires the vibration seems to reduce.

Thanks

Mike

Did you check the tread on your tires?

Have your motor mounts checked.

It could be related to a front tire, a broken thread or wire from tire internal layers impacting tire surface (circumference). You can test this by lifting the car, have an object touching tire surface then rotate tire. A perfect tire should be touching the object at all points indicating perfect circumference.

How do motor mounts make the steering wobble/vibrate?

I had the same problem with my '98. It turned out to be just a bad tire.

He described symptoms of vibration from side to side that goes away at higher speeds. I have had that problem with my 94 Camry and eventually it proved to be the motor mounts breaking down. After replacing them the problem eased up. It is probably not his problem, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

One can check the blinker fluid ... but is it relevant? What's this about "...goes away at higher speeds" ?? He says the following:

OK, Philip. I concede entirely you are more knowledgeable of automobiles than I am. Perhaps it would have been more correct for me to say "I have had a similar problem where my vehicle shook from side to side upon acceleration, yet when cruising it steadied out. The cause was bad motor mounts."

Thank you for correcting me and not letting that one slide by.

You have only repeated yourself. Motor mounts in a FWD car don't cause the vehicle to shake from side to side.
