Sticky gas pedal

Once in a while the accelerator pedal in my 99 Camry sticks, or it seems that way. Rarely happens but when it does, it's annoying. It's like I try to accelerate and the car doesn't go anywhere. I have two choices. I either push more on the pedal which results in a car suddenly jumps or squeals the wheels, etc, or I just release the pedal and step on it again. Any way I can fix this?

With your engine off - check where the flexible rubber air filter hose connects to your engine. A phillips screw holds the rubber hose onto the air horn /fuel rail (or whatever its called). Just inside is a round air supply valve that is controlled by the accelerator pedal. It gets gummed up and can be cleaned with a paper towel and some solvent. Just put a small amount of solvent on the paper towel - and have someone hold the accelearator pedal down (witt the engine off!!) and you wipe arouind the rim until its clean.
