Success FINALLY with damper bolt...

Re: 88 Camry wagon: Had to buy abt $80 worth of tools to do it! MY 1/2 in air impact wrench and 1/2 in. breaker bar would not loosen the bolt. after appplying a lot of Kroil and even heating with MAPP gas. Got a 3/4 in breaker bar, 16 in extension, and 19 mm socket ....cheap price from eBay. MAPP gas torch...$40.00. Got 16 in cheater pipe. Put the socket/extension/breaker bar on the damper pulley bolt, and supported the end of the extension right next to breaker bar with a jack stand, adjusted so that the extension/socket was straight/centered in line with the bolt and crankshaft. Locked up crankshaft with a crowbar (oil pan removed). Got assistant to heat the bolt up with MAPP gas. Because of the jackstand support, I was able to literally stand on the breaker bar (actually the cheater pipe). Finally there was a loud POP! and the bolt was loose. PHEW! Hows that for rediculously over-torqued/tight!

I'll probably still come out ahead doing the overhaul myself...but not by a lot, figuring in the tools I had to buy. Thanks Geronimo

Who cares if you come out ahead. Figuring out how to get it done yourself (will a torch no less) is the way to go. Show that machine whos boss.

Congrats,.. you had to take the oil-pan off,..wot a bummer.

There may have been some moisture which got into the threads and "rust-welded" it. "Rust welding" nature's way of learning us to use WD40.

Next time rent a 3/4 impact wrench. It'll pop it right out.
