Tail Light/Brake Light Indicator

In the last two days, my tail light/brake light indicator has come on when I'm driving the car. It doesn't come on when I start the car or when I put my foot on the brake for the first time. It's come on about ten minutes or so after I've started driving and then stayed on for the rest of the way. I've checked all of the lights and they seem to be fine. Do I have a short or bad wiring issue?

Try wiggling the wiring harness at the trunk hinge, and see if that affects the warning light on the dash.

That was the cause of a similar problem in my 99 Carmy.

I did that (wiggling the wiring harness) and the warning light went away for one drive, but it then came back on again the next time I drove the car. Looking at the lights on the back of the car again, it looks like there are red plastic sections surrounding the reverse lights (i.e. the white back up lights have a section of red around them). These sections of red around the white back up lights (on each side of the license plate) appear to be the only things that don't light up when I test all the lights. Are they supposed to go on, or are they just for decoration -- to blend in with the rest of the back of the car like on my prior car the 93 Camry? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Wiggling the wires wasn't to FIX the problem, it was to show you that you have an abraded wiring harness and/or broken wires INSIDE the insulation.
