V6 Spark Plug Chage

I have a 1996 v6 Camry and need to change the spark plugs. The rear looks like a real "Bithc" How do you get to the middle one without removing"half the engine" Do I need any special spanners. I have a good socket set and plug spanner.

Thank you

Louis

This is one of the reasons I bought a 4 cylinder. From what I've seen, the trick seems to be to put the spark plug socket on the plug first, the add an assortment of swivel universal joints and various length extensions until to get the right combination. May also help to try a spark plug socket with the universal joint built in. Then I've also heard it's a good idea to thread in the new plug by hand with a length of rubber tubing slipped over the plug top, to avoid cross threading.

If one looks at the archives of the newsgroup, there are quite a few people who have really screwed up their engine (cross threading, etc) trying to do the V6 plugs themselves. Admittedly, many have done it successfully, but the cost of a mistake is very high.

The older you get, the better you are at writing checks at the expense of your mechanical practice. ;-)

Did the job yesterday.

For ease and safety I removed the inlet manifold and replaced the gasket.

No damages knuckles, no crossthreaded plug wholes and no damage.

Job took 2.5 hrs.

Thanks for your advise.
