01 Sequoia coolant question: Zerex G-05 or Toyota red ?

All,

Just pick up my Sequoia last night. Love the truck ! The truck has 87K miles. I figure its time to change all fluids since I am not sure when the previous owner did this. My next door neighbor offers to get a few gallon of Zerex G-05 for really cheap since he works for Valvoline. Looking at the specs, the Zerex has low silicate, low pH, and phosphate free. I wonder if Zerex G-05 is about as good as the red Toyota coolant or even better ? Anyone has any idea ? Thanks Chris

Hi , I have 2 Toyota Tacomas. A 98 & 2000 The 98 has 100,000 miles and I service every three years . Both cooling systems look like new , no sign of deposits. I live in Arizona both these trucks are driven in temps over

115 all summer. The best coolant for the best truck is the Toyota red

I owned couple Toyota before. They are old and cheap, so I didn't bother put in the Toyota coolant, just Pretone. I replace the water pump at at 100K, so never know any effect.

I would use ONLY distilted water even for flushing and filling the reservoir later. This is more important than what type of coolant you use. Distilted water will ensure that there is no bad stuff that will cause your system to rust, nor get hard deposit.

I think Zerek stuff is pretty decent, but do you want your car to be the test vehicle? Since you are saving a lot of money by doing the maintenance yourself, why not spending a few more bucks to get the good stuff.
