'01 Tundra Timing Belt--Addendum!

Two weks ago, I came here and asked about my Tundra w/101K miles on it and it's need of a new timimng belt. I received some nice, detailed replies and thought I'd give you an update. I went to two independent Toyota 'garages' and got quotes from them on the job and then went to my dealer to see what they could do. Believe it or not, the dealer was right in line with the costs that the independent shops quoted me I just felt more confident in the dealer doing this job over the independents. They gave me a computer generated list of what they may have to do, including parts and labor. The other shops just gave me 'out of the air' quotes and were never really clear exactly what they would be replacing while in there. "We may do this, we may do that..." I went to the dealer, dropped off the Tundra and walked the one block home. About 5 hours later, they called and I picked it up and the total costs, including 3 oil seals, timing belt and water pump were just exactly as quoted, plus a one year warranty on their work. The other shops kind of hemmed and hawed about covering their work for more than one month. Anyway, my Tundra is back on the road with new oil seals, a new timing belt and a new water pump and should be good to go for another 100K. Again, thanks to all that responded to my initial inquiry.

Good to hear. I think the confidence you gained alone was well worth it. Besides, the cost wasn't out of line.
