1995 4cyl 4WD pickup issues

Hey all. I found this place by accident. Looks cool.

Anyway, I had a couple of questions and wanted to get some suggestions on some things. My truck has 152K+ miles on it and I've not broken down on the side of the road in the entire time I've owned it. But, I would like to keep it on the road for a couple more years just because it's my first vehicle and I plan to drive it til it dies. :) I was wondering what sort of stuff should I replace to help extend its life some?

Recently, my parking brake light comes on and stay one for a while and then goes off, but will intermittently come on for short periods of time. Any ideas what that means? Also, my temperature gauge will show the engine starting to overheat, but goes right back to normal and remains there for the duration of my trip (longest being 2 hours). I've had the engine rebuilt in 2001, so I'm wondering what might be causing that. The truck idles a little rough, but nothing else apparent is going on. My radiator is full, no white smoke or anything.

Lastly, I want to put some of those accessories on my truck (roll bar, brushguard, grille guard, lights, etc) and was wondering if there is a good company that has that sort of thing at decent prices. With getting repairs done, won't have a huge amount to apply to accessories, but definitely want to get some.

Thanks.

Check the adjustment of the emergency brake switch up under the e-brake handle. It may be adjusted too tight and as the handle vibrates while driving, it could be turning the light on and off. If that's fine, do you see the charge light coming on at all? If so it could be worn brushes inside the alternator:

Try this for the temp. gauge:

Try this for the idle:

Check your brake fluid level, it's probably a bit low from normal front pad wear.

Should also turn the wheels full lock, stick your nose back there with a flashlight, and see how much brake pads are left each time - once you hear brakes grinding, the work gets a lot more expensive.

Probably the thermostat sticking on the first cycle of the day - or you used an aftermarket thermostat with too small (or no) bypass hole. Or someone installed the thermostat backwards so the heat motor is on the colder side, and the engine gets a bit warm before the heat gets through to the actuator.

If you change it, go get one from the dealer - saving $5 on this critical part isn't worth the trouble.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot this weekend.

Hey, I looked at my brake fluid level and it was just slightly above the min line. I added more and the light stopped coming on. Thanks
