1995 4Runner Question

Hello.

Recently my 4Runner has had a rougher time starting (22re). If I do not pump the gas once it will not start. If I pump it once it starts fine. Also after driving the vehicle around town for any period of time you can smell a gasoline/fuel smell inside the cab. Most pronounced in the rear seats.

Now...while I am mechanicly inclined. I'm not a mechanic by any way. Money is also tight this time of year....any ideas?

Likely a small fuel leak that is allowing the residual pressure to bleed off, not sure if the 2nd gens have the access panel under the rear seats to check the fuel pump, but if so, have a look. Then the hard starting is due to the above possibly a defective circuit opening relay that is not kicking on the fuel pump while cranking over the engine. A quick test for this is to connect the fuel pump test jumper and see if the symptoms change:

Thanks for the help..now I've got to find the vibration in the steering wheel accompanied by the clunk sound under full revolution left hand turns.

Lower ball joints replaced 5000 miles ago.

Clunk? Does the 95 have the plastic cover that goes over the steering stop bolt on either side? Check that - on my

90 they would wear thru or crack and on full lock of the steering wheel it sounded like the wheel was going to fall off. Vibration is either improperly balanced tires or warped brake rotors.
