2005 Toyota Tacoma option packages

All,

I am looking at a 2005 Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab with Long Bed. I wanted to buy one with the TRD Off Road Package. My dealer said he had one and, even though it had the graphics, it did not have the locking differential or skid plate or shocks.

Going to the Toyota web site it seems as though this package is only available on the Access Cab.

It seems to me that this option would be more widely available. Can any of you who have dealt with Toyota, or maybe work for a dealer, shed some light on how they do the packages? Will this package become more widely available after the truck has been on the market for a few months? My old truck is getting along on hope and prayer and I need to do something soon. I just want to get the configuration I am looking for.

From driving around my friends 04 Taco with TRD, I would not get the TRD package. The only worth wild option is the locking diff, and unless you know how to use it and really need it, it's not worth it. Normal 4x4 is going to get you where you need to go 99.9% of the time.

The TRD shocks are blue. If you want blue shocks that are way stiff, get the TRD package. Want some shocks that work, buy some KYBs.

(note, I have not driven around a non TRD Taco, so the suspension could be way stiff without the TRD shocks. But I am sure the TRD shocks don't help)

As for skid plate, go to any off road shop and order a real nice one.

Your dealer lied. You can't get a DC long bed with the trd off-road package. The double cab long bed trd sport, that, you can get. Its got

17" wheels, hoodscoop, body-colored bumpers/mirrors/grill.

I don't want the TRD, but I sure like the looks of the hood scoop. Dealer had one sitting next to a 2004 DC. Looked a foot or two wider than the

2004, but they claim it's only 4" wider. Didn't realize it had 17" wheels.

01-04 TRD Package is kinda nice.

Gets you softer Progressive spring but with stiffer shocks that work nice after you get them hot. Rancho's, Edelbrocks or Bilsteins would be better but not Toyota Bilsteins.

The Locker is real nice to have but can be difficult to drive with without good understanding of what it does.

Skid plate is OK too but better if aftermarket.

but the 05 seems to give up on the electric locker in trade for the Eaton LSD.

I saw this truck at my local dealership...nice truck but had crappy Dunlop tires on those nice alloys...what happened to BFG?

The 17's get Dunlops (TRD Sport). The TRD Off-road package run 16" Rugged Trails, which isn't that much of an improvement but atleast it looks better. Not a fan of street trucks but has anyone seen the X-Runner?
