4-Runner Speedometer Cable Noise

I've got a 90 4-Runner that the speedometer cable makes sqweeking noise above 25 mph. I've disconnected both ends but can't see a way to remove the internal cable or lubricate. It also looks to be very difficult to replace with another due to the firewall penetration cable sleeve. Does anyone have any suggestions on lubricating? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Gregg

My wife's 91 pickup does the same thing. When she took it to the dealership, they pulled the speedo cable and greased the fitting the cable fits into in the back of the speedometer itself and that took care of it for a long time. It is starting to sound off again so I figure on just doing it myself this time.

There have been other posts about this same thing that you could search for. If you pull one end of it, you could drop some lithium grease (I think it was the lithium that was suggested) down that end, but eventually the squeak will return. I had to replace mine on my '90

4Runner. The only hard part was getting the routing the same as original down to the t-case. NAPA has the cable for $17 total.
