93 PU AC Switch

The AC on my 93 PU (22RE) stopped working so I popped out the switch to do a continuity check. It seemed OK, but I was curious about the extra pins so I snapped the switch open to see what the extra pins do. Whoa! Inside the switch there is a tiny printed circuit board with surface mount resistors and other things (transistors?). Why all this electronics for a lighted switch? I am curious. Anyone know?

Thanks.

May be the dimming circuit, many of the lighted things on the dash automatically dim when the headlights are turned on, digital clock for example.
