94 short box toyota truck 22RE leaking pinion seal

the vin is JT4RN82P82P8KS001629 so I can tell a parts counter what the hell I'm driving , was handed down from dad. so i have a leaking differential and I was wondering if this is acommon toyota thing , I have 185,000 kms. so I priced the seal and its like 8 bucks but the u joint is 90, so I looked a napa and its like 30. what gives?

the u joint seems tight no noise or slop on trying to move it back and forth. so I assume a oil seal as I only drive about 5000 km every 6 months. have oil spray against gas tank and the level was done. read a few manauls, is this a hard job to pull yoke and install seal. is the seal that hard to pull ? and the joke that hard to pull wiht puller without the typical toyota special tool. Now the U joint is this some special u joint or just japanese over pricing. from the vin number can someone tell me what model I have and what u joint I can by at napa. or a seal that does the same thing as the toyota part number. I still dont knwo what my trucks called I think its a t100 or tacoma, 6 foot box, 22re engine, 2.4 liter. any help on changing seal appreciated or direction to a good site.

Typical dealer pricing on parts. Seal would be cheaper elsewhere too. It is not unusual for seal to fail with mileage and age. When you replace it. Mark exact position of nut on pinion stub before removing it and eaturn it to the same setting so you do not mess up perload.
