99 4Runner - Broken 12V power aux outlets !!

Probably a fuse. Are you having problems finding the fuse box? Usually it's by the driver side kick panel.

test the line at every junction, a junction at a time. when you have the section that's dead identyed, you can replace it. easiest and cheapes way to go. only fix the broken. see if the juice is getting to the sockets, then track backwards. you can use a bonehead simple 12 volt socket with alligator clips on each leed so that it is mobile and works or doesnt. back when radio shuck sold electronics instead of overpriced appliances, you could whip the whole setup for 2 bucks. or 37 cents for just the socket and the rest scrounged.

simple question: Do you have a wiring diagram?

I have a 2001 4Runner. The 1999 might be the same.

Under the hood, behind the battery, is a black fuse and relay box. The power outlets have a relay there, and it's marked on the cover which one it is (right rear).

On my vehicle I removed the relay and jumpered the connection so the accessory power outlets are always on, as shown in this picture:

" You can make a jumper out of two male spade lugs and a piece of wire (use a sufficiently high gauge of wire). At least you can use it to see if it's the relay that's bad or something else (fuse) is blown. If that wire gets the outlets working then you can consider getting a relay if you want the outlets switched on and off with the ignition. You could also check that the relay is getting power to the coil connections using a multimeter (two of the three top pins in the picture must be the coil voltage.

I think that the fuse that goes to the power outlets, is the 15 Amp "ACC" fuse inside the car, (top row, middle column), and that it's between the relay and the outlets, so if the relay is bad the fuse could be good and the outlets would have no power. Check the fuse first. If the fuse is okay try jumpering the contacts as shown in the picture.
