A/C on older model Toy pickups

Does anyone know what year model A/C system are the same? I have a 87 with AC, that has been wrecked, also a good 90 model that never had AC.

Would the AC system from the 87 model work on the 90 model?

Yes. If they are both 22RE's (or both 22R's) they are basically clones; only minor evolution in sheet metal (fenders, etc.). A/C of this era consisted of a kit, usually dealer installed. Parts in the kit should fit an '87 or a '90. The kit consisted of the condenser, dryer, compressor, bracket with idler, rigid lines, flex lines, VSV and idle-up activator, switch, the under dash module (containing amplifier, evaporator core, low pressure switch, sensor, expansion valve/orifice), some hardware (longer bolts for the bracket, bolt on pulley, fan shroud enhancement, etc.) and a very small wiring harness (consisting of the tap to + on the fenderwell, the vsv plug, and the drop to the compressor). The under dash module replaces some heater ductwork. The standard wiring harness should accommodate the under dash module and the switch. It's really pretty straightforward; the small wiring harness, and drilling of the firewall. perhaps being most challenging. Dimples on the firewall indicate where holes, and grommets, are to be installed. A swap between 22R and 22RE will have some differences with the VSV and idle-up configuration.

There is some discussion about this at

Thanks Jeff

Both are the 22R, so think I will give it a shot.

As a courtesy to the planet, have an AC guy suck all the old Freon out before you start - unless you have a way to swap the system without releasing any of the gas.

Not sure if this was in your plan or not, but the older Freon breaks down ozone.

Just an FYI.
