Carburetor Float Level Question

Hi Gang,

I'm new to the group. I'm trying to resolve some carburetor issues with a 1981 Toyota pickup (22RE, 4 speed) with a camper conversion on it.

Here's the scoop: The vehicle is not passing emissions due to high levels of carbon monoxide at higher RPMs. It's fine at idle. There are several possible diagnoses for this problem, and one is that the carburetor float has become saturated.

Here's my question: if I check the float level through that little glass window with the vehicle parked on a level service and it's in the target range, is there anything else I need to do before ruling out the carburetor float as the source of this problem?

Thanks!

You just did. CO? I'd make sure the air injection or air suction system is working properly. If its not, CO will go way up at cruise and also be higher at idle. Usually the diverter valve has become stuck and no more air is blowing into the injectors.
