Check Engine Light After MAF Cleaning

After cleaning my mass air flow sensor on my 1996 4Runner 3.4L, the check engine light came on. I disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and then hooked it back up. The light was not on before I cleaned the MAF... Any suggestions as to why the light came on and how to make it go away?? thanks

How did you clean the MAF? What did you use for chemicals?

The MAF is pretty sensitve, and improper cleaning or corrosive chemicals can really screw it up.

Look behind the glove box and find the computer; disconnect the connectors (KEY OFFFFFFF!!!!!!) for about 15 mins and start over.

I was always told to make sure not to use any chemicals on the airflow sensor. Which really does not help your situation, as it is a little too little a little too late . MLM

Did you use electrical contact cleaner? If you cleaned it with anything other than that, you may have messed up the MAF... which could be quite costly if you get it from the stealer.... I mean dealer.

As for the clearing the CE light, open up the fuse box right above the battery and unplug the 15 AMP EFI fuse for a couple minutes and you should be good to go. Pull the little EFI fuse, NOT the larger black one.
