Cruise Control ON/OFF?

I am wondering about the CRUISE light on the dash. Someone mentioned that if this light is turned OFF (Cruise OFF) this could make changes to the computer learning how the vehicle is driven, effecting mileage and response. The owner's manual cautions to turn off the cruise control to avoid accidentally engaging the cruise control. This statement seems more like a liability issue than anything else. Does anyone else leave their cruise control ON, but just cancels it when not used? Canceling is not the same as turning the cruise control OFF.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory turned auto!

It just toggles on/off with each press of the switch or turning the ignition off.

All good drivers (approx 5% of the total driving population) eliminate as many random factors as possible in order to remain safe. That would include turning off the cruise control when it's not in use, along with about 100 other important driving skills.

What difference does it make whether it is on or off when not in use? Are there reports of cruise controls suddenly engaging of their own accord? Or camry, since this is a 'Yota group;)

It's possible to flick the thing into set mode while doing something else, especially if you have long legs, and the stick bumps your knee on a sharp turn.

Where the heck is your set switch? Mine is on the windshield wiper stalk on the right side of the steering column (86 & 88 4Runner) and needs to be twisted for about a full second; and IIRC, a dedicated stalk on the steering column of the ex's '98 4Runner. Same with a Dodge Magnum that needs to be pushed or pulled. Cannot recall ever driving any vehicle where it was easy to hit by mistake, and I drive a lot of rentals.
