Door Cover

I am planning to open the front door covers of my 2004 4Runner to replace the speakers. I'm not sure if I will just pry-off the covers. I see only one retaining screw. I want to be sure that I do not break anything when I pry off the cover. Anybody already opened the cover and share their knowledge? I'll appreciate very much if you can give me the procedure. Thanks a lot.

Take it to yoru local audio shop, ask them if they would be kind enough to take one off for you or at least show you where the screws and clips are. Id invest ina door trim clip removal tool from snapon or similar as they are a bastard to fix once broken.

If you mail ordered the equipment, offering to _pay_ for the time it takes to show you would probably get you better service.

The hourly rate is usually posted on the shop wall.

Goes without saying really I suppose. When Im not sure I always at least offer to pay for the time. If the guys do a huge favour just cause they are nice guys they get a free morning feed from me to say thanks as a minimum.

I even got a free amp install due to me buying them all Pizza one time. I got pally with them and ended up working at teh shop and now I do the installs (well did then a few years ago now).

Unfortunately, it doesn't go without saying. I'm with you with the pizza, gourmet coffee, or donut delivery for helpful folks. If I know the folks well enough, microbrews are sometimes welcome, as well.

I know folks who own bicycle shops, stereo shops, computer stores, etc... On a regular basis, people who they've never, ever seen before, come in expecting free support for products bought elsewhere, especially from ultra low-cost web vendors, eBay, and so on.

I'm not talking about questions that require a 3 sentence answer, or regular customers who jump on a great deal elsewhere, but people who sometimes need as much as an HOUR, or more, of assistance.

My local tire shop that offers "free installation" has actually had people show up with tires purchased from Tire Rack demanding (not asking nicely, _demanding_!) free installation! The local bike shop has had people try on cycling shoes for 90 minutes, leave, and order them from a Yahoo store to save $20.

As far as the panel removal goes:

has all the answers needed, right from the horses mouth, for a small fee, if whoever sold the gear can't help.
