Gas mileage question

I'm currently getting 25-26 hiway mpg with my '85 SR5 Extra Cab with the

22RE. I'm just about to upgrade to a little newer truck and I think I'd like to stay with a 22RE but several of the trucks I've looked at have the 3.4L V6 EFI. What kinda gas mileage should I expect to get if I go with the V6? TIA Jerry

PS If you'd prefer to answer via e:mail, take one of the zeroes out of my return address. jj

My current truck has the 5speed manual trans and any one that I'm planning to get will be the same.

The newer, larger V-6 actually gets a little better mileage than the 3.4, but only with the auto-trans. That would be the Tacoma post 2005.

You fail to mention what truck you have. 4WD, 2WD? Which are you looking for? Mileage could run from 16 to 25 depending on speed, load and equipment with the 3.4. My 4.0 4WD double-cab gets 17-18 in town and up to 25 highway depending on speed.

My 2005 4x4 V6 6 speed manual Access Cab averages around 18.5-19 on premium and 17.5-18 on regular. All gas in my area has 10% ethanol, all the time. I have data for every tank from about 1200 miles to the current 25k.

I've heard that newer trucks have different computer settings that don't get better mileage on premium. Mine does, and my owner's manual recommends premium. Enough to make premium a hair cheaper per mile, with better performance to boot.

Maybe 20 mpg. Sadly, fuel efficiency has not greatly improved over the last 10-15 years. You should find lots of truck bargains today. I saw a 2008 Silverado (with loads of options) for $14,500.

I am getting between 18-20 in my 08 doublecab 4x4 with 4.0 liter and auto. Most of my drive to work is 55-60 mph except when i hit one little town, then i have to drop to 35 mph for 3 miles.

Looked at SUV's lately?

Locally, there are (2) 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokees, in mint condition with under 15k, for $10,000, negotiable!

Spread sheet copies a little off but the bottom line is 20.2 overall with the highway/city percentages listed.

Note: I drive conservatively, have a Borla exhaust and intake (not added, came with the truck), toneau seems to help marginally, my city driving is small town, not so much stop and go and I'm a flatlander.

Don't know what years you are looking at, but believe the VVT probably helps this model a lot with regard to fuel efficiency.
