Headlight notification? 04 4Runner

When I leave my headlights on and leave my vehicle they stay on without any kind of "buzzer" to let me know.

I tryed sitting there for 5 min, but they never went off. Did Toyota forget something?

My 2004 4Runner's shut off automatically after I exit the vehicle. They stay on for awhile, but I've never timed it. If I lock the door with the remote, they turn off right away. Are you actually sitting in your 4Runner when this happens, or are you waiting outside of it for them to turn off. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

My Tacoma is the same, no buzzer, but if i take the keys out and close the door, they shut off automatically.

Sort of a related topic - I ran my '04 4-Runner down to nearly empty on the gas gauge, and no warning light or buzzer ever activated. What's up with that? Hasn't a low fuel level alert been pretty standard on every car built in the last 20 years? I have found those little lights to be a lot more practical than carrying around a couple extra gallons of gas in a can...

You have a low fuel light, it just doesn't come on until you are down to about 2 gallons. Far too low in my opinion.

The light is just below and to the left of the fuel guage. It's just a small round amber light that comes on, I don't remember for sure, but I don't think it actually says low fuel or anything useful.

Two gallons? Sheesh, that's like less than 40 miles (now equivalent to $4). Thanks for the info. Not sure I'll ever be brave enough to take it that low just to see it light up though!
