How do I increase the gas mileage? Tundra 04

Hybrids all post phony gas mileage numbers. The manufacturers are required by law to test according to EPA procedures and post those results. Everyone involved knows that those tests are not appropriate for hybrids, but they haven't yet come out with new testing procedures that echo real-world results.

It takes a diesel engine that size to haul a 1-ton truck and a

4-horse trailer, 6-ton 5th wheel trailer, etc. That engine is appropriate for a 1-ton truck.

Concurrent with the Bush Crime Syndicate's seizure of power : : : The point I was (so very, very poorly) trying to make is that our gas : prices have jumped in the last 5 years more than any time in history with : the exception of the embargos.

Concurrent with the Bush Crime Syndicate's seizure of power

What we *can* absolutely count on is : continued market manipulation of oil prices. What we *can't* forsee is : where oil prices will be tomorrow.

As long as Bush Cheney and the rest of Big Oil's traitorous lackeys are in power

: : The oil industry is the single most important industry in the country. : Personally, I think the oil industry should be nationalized with a date : set for phaseout and permanent shutdown. The government should then treat : the issue of developing alternate fuels for what it is -- A national : security issue. It does not appear that private industry is up to the : task......

In this country, private industry is up to one thing only: screwing the public as hard as it can without killing it (until said public is all used up; to be then tossed by the wayside for "fresh meat").

Lol. I almost have to agree. Note that I said the oil companies should be nationalized - then set a date for phaseout and permanent shutdown (as an oil entity). The idea being a changeover from oil to some-other-fuel.

The development of some-other-fuel will require massive funds and talent until a viable replacement is found. This is a process that 99% of all modern corporations can't deal with - they have become a slave to next week's profits. It's ironic that these corps talk of "obligations to shareholders" but don't seem to recognise obligations to the environment or the long term future of energy consumption. Only a government will have the necessary resources to carry this off - the modern day equilvalent of a moon landing.

The *real* oil crunch is in sight and will be on us in decades - maybe less. It's only going to get worse the longer we wait - with an ever greater population driving and shipping in ever greater quantities.

Jeez, I rattled on enough....far too many of the posts on this thread are mine. Time to get back to work.......bye folks.

Wow, 40+MPG would be nice. The 4.2L diesel engines Toyota offers in their foreign Landcruisers still get ~30 and as that's about double what I get in the 4.7L petrol engine I've got in my Tundra, I wouldn't mind that either.

I guess that's true and hell yeah, it would be a very interesting experience converting petrol Toyotas to diesels. Do you know of any web sites which discuss this? I've heard a bit about biodiesel but from what I understand, it does a pretty good job of eating most of an engine's rubberised components.

I can't think of anything the Government ran that was not a failure. They should NEVER be in any business.

There isn't a transit system anywhere in the World that is a money maker. They are all subsidized.

The military. Certainly not a failure. Failures exist within their scope, but generally involve liberal intervention.

Very true.

Again, very true.

Of course the military isn't a "failure." They cover up or eliminate their mistakes. They squander their unlimited funds with abandon. And they're doing a stellar job in Iraq, aren't they?

I'd pay big money to see you shoot off that stupid mouth of your in front of any soldier in Iraq right now. You're nothing more than a keyboard-flexing moron.

For those of your ignorant ilk, even a killfile isn't good enough.

How much of your tax dollar do you figure goes toward "cheap gas"?

IF ALL the costs of cheap gas were figured into the price per gallon - the price of gas in the US would be far greater than anything in Europe. The US oil policy is based on military might and foreign aid to oil producing countries. Those costs SHOULD be factored into the price-per-gallon but they are not - you pay for them with your income tax. If the average American had to pay what cheap gas actually costs, would not stand for it and would probably cut consumption. Which in turn would stop the cash giveaway from tax payers to big oil and military corporations and government won't let that happen.......
