Ignition key issue

I have a 2006 Tundra. One time my key would not turn in the ignition. I tried exiting the vehicle, used my keyless entry, and tried again. The key would not turn. I tried backing off the key a hair, still no turn. After about 10-15 attempts, the key worked. Now I am paranoid this will happen again.

Have you tried turning your steering wheel slightly while turning the key?

Possibly. At the time I was not sure what I did or what happened that the key finally worked. I may have moved the steering wheel unintentionally, and did not realize this could cause an ignition key not to work. (Is this a common occurrence with new vehicles?) I've been driving for over 35 years and this is first for me. Thanks.

It's not common, but it happens. If you shut the ignition off, and move the steering wheel, it will lock the ignition switch. You can usually hear it click as it locks. Most drivers don't move the steering wheel after they shut the car off, so the ignition never locks. These ignition locks have been in cars and trucks for years.

That's happened to me a couple times in my '06, too. Never quite that badly. I THINK it's the steering lock, but I'm not sure. It happened in the first couple months after I bought it then has not happened since.
