Installing lift kit for '03 Tacoma

I tried my first install of a lift kit this weekend - a Revtech kit, 3" in front and 2 1/2 in back.... and found out it isn't as easy as I thought.

Long story short, I never got it done.... A couple questions:

- I borrowed a coil spring compressor, the kind that sort of hooks over the sprin toward the top and bottom, and you compress the spring by turning the nut. That was my first problem. The spring looked like a variable-rate spring... the spacing on the coils was a lot smaller at the top than on the bottom. Which meant I couldn't get any where near the top of the coil with the compressor... and ended up only being able to clamp onto the middle two thirds of the spring. So there was no way I could compress that thing enough to get a

3" spacer in there. My question is: In the instructions was pictured another type of spring compressor... it looked like a hydraulic press. Do automotive parts stores rent that type of spring compressor?

- The other question I had was: when I unbolted the bottom of the front strut, it had some spring tension on it, and immediately dropped down about and inch and a half. And getting that back in there, with it being sprung, was a challenge. If I have the 3" spacer in there, will I have that much more distance to go, to get the bottom hole of the strut ligned up with the hole in the bracket? If that's the case, getting that back in there seems impossible.

Thanks in advance...
