New 2003 Tundra problem

Have had my new Tundra less than 2 weeks, and have the these possible problems -

  1. After first starting, sometimes have trouble dropping the shift into reverse. Clears up after couple of tries.

  1. After first start, and dropping into reverse to back out of drive, hear a dull clunk which sounds to come from front end. Someone else told me it sounded like a Aircond vent closing.

Anyone else experience these ?

That's a safety interlock. The brake pedal must be depressed to move the shifter from park. The brake pedal must be depressed FIRMLY to move the shifter from park. Stand on the f-ing thing :)

Don't mess around with this... I know of two people on Tundrasolutions who have broken their shifters.

That's the ABS resetting... it happens on every start after rolling about 5-10 feet. You won't notice it after a few weeks if it's a daily driver.

I've got over 50,000 on my '03 and I've had no problems at all.

Great answers if correct. Thanks a lot.

Figured the shift problem was a safety feature, but seems like over kill. Your right, you have to mash it.

the clunk is more than likely the ABS doing a self test. I had concerns about the same noise and took it back to the dealer, and that is what they told me. thinking it was a BS answer, I searched the web, and there is plenty of info on the noise, all saying the same thing. as far as shifting into reverse, you have to make sure that your foot is on the brake good and hard, at least on mine anyway (03 tundra limited)

good luck DD

I heard that it is adjustable... haven't checked to verify, but the adjustment should be up under the dash near the brake light switch.
