NEW JASPER ENGINE ( 1994 TOYOTA T-100 3VZE ENGINE A V-6 3.0 liter SOHC ) INSTALLED BY CERTIFIED JASPER ENGINE INSTALLER

Penzoil 10W-40 and filter ( 5 qts ) breakin oil. After 50+ miles started smoking, by 200+ miles was using oil, added 2 qts by 505 miles. When oil was changed and new Fram oil filter. Breakin oil was black as ink. New Penzoil 10W-40 and filter ( 5 qts ). After 100+ miles smoking at crankup ( can't tell if it smokes while driving ). At 274 miles 1 qt low. AT 390 miles another 1/2 qt low. On checking today found oil in the large pipe around 3 inches in diameter that goes from the air filter intake box to butterfly that lets air into the engine. The engine has 3 year -- 100,000 mile warranty parts and labor. Runs good, with lots of power for this size engine. But when you get it on the open highway at 60 to 65 it uses oil fast, like a qt every 125 miles. Around town 10 to 15 mile trips use is very low. Drove 45 to 55 the fastert during breakin. Anyone have any ideas what may be going on with this engine. BUD

If it were me I would be asking Jasper instead of posting on the usenet.

You've got an engine that's destroying itself. You need to get it back to the installer with Warrenty in hand. Good luck. Al

Leak in a seal or gasket in the cylinder head somewhere? Take the truck back to Jasper to get it fixed. Keep on burning oil, and the catalytic converter may be poisoned.

BTW, Fram/Pennzoil filters are bad:

genuine Toyota / Denso filters:

this is the D1 filter recommended for I-4. The D3 filter recommended for V6 engines has the same design but even larger filter area - 203 sq in.
