Pricing for a 2006 Tacoma?

I'm looking at the 4X4 now, how much should I be looking at for the

2006 Tacoma, 4X4 with the TRD Sports package (Silver)?

The sticker around here is right at $30,000 for this model, that seems a little steep to me for a mid-sized truck...I can get a Nissan Titan for $22,980 right now...

Thanks!

It's an apples and oranges comparison...

You can probably get a Silverado for less than the Tacoma, as well.

AMEN!

Had a missin' nissen, then got wise and got a Tacoma. Purrs along and pulls like crazy! BTW, hope they solved the head gasket problem with the nissen, "It blew again, dat soon?"

BTW, I've been told by several pre-2005 Silverado, Titan, and even a Tundra owner, that if the '05+ Tacoma had been available when they purchased what they have, the would have bought the Tacoma. None of these guys have quad cabs, and they all use the bed, and 4WD. All of those folks called my Access Cab V6 4x4 the "perfect balance" of size, power, and sensibility, for a half ton truck. The Titan guy really likes my truck. We even swapped for a weekend.

First, let me say that I do have a Toyota truck, a 1989 reg. cab 4x4,

22RE, with 148K miles on it. The truck was initially both my commuter and work truck. It hauls 6 to 8 chords of firewood per year, and is in 4WD low range a lot of the time to get to it. Sure, many things have needed repair in all those years, but, with the exception of having to have the frame welded twice, all were expected for the age of the truck. When I went truck shopping almost two years ago, I purposely waited for the 2005s to show up in the lots. The first thing that hit was the sticker shock. I wanted a double cab 4x4 with a v6 and manual trans. I was in our local Toyota dealers lot looking at one of the then new Tacomas, and a salesman came out. The very first words out of his mouth were "We aren't discounting those trucks. You will pay full sticker price". No "Hi, how are you" or anything else. So, between the sticker shock and the arrogance, I looked at all my other options. Since the company I work for is a business partner with all the domestic brands, I can get any of them for below sticker price plus still get rebates off. Long story short, I ended up buying a 2004 leftover Dodge Dakota SLT Plus quad cab, 287ci V8, manual trans. 4X4 truck (which listed for $28,050) for under $23K including tax. This was 5K to 7K less than I would have spent on the Tacoma. Is this truck in the same quality ballpark as the Toyota? Based on my experience, no, but only time will tell if I made a mistake. Plus I am much more comfortable in the Dakota. I didn't like the Tacoma seats for comfort and they were way too close to the floor, with your legs sticking out in front of you instead of down to the floor. So far I like everything about the Dakota except the mileage, which I knew wasn't going to be great when I bought it. But, the real deal breaker was the huge money difference between the two trucks. I can buy a lot of gas and occasional repairs for that much money. I don't mean to start any flame wars, just relating what my experience was. Larry

Sorry, I meant to say "below invoice price", not "below sticker price" Larry

You can check the invoice and MSRP prices at Kelley Blue Book

I just checked the MSRP for an Access Cab V-6 Automatic 4x4 Tacoma with the TRD package in my area (CA). Without any other options, the MSRP is $28,050. The invoice price is about $2700 less. You should be able to get one for at least $1500-1700 off the invoice excluding any rebates. They have been out long enough that dealers should deal. If they don't, leave immediately. Some Toyot dealers get snooty because they are in high demand.

Go through Costco or other similar fleet deal setup. You will get prices well below MSRP on all but the latest hot-seeling vehicles.

I also checked the price of a 1/2 ton Silverado LT with 4x4 and a 6-1/2 foot bed with no options.( I couldn't find the equivalent of the TRD package) The MSRP was $29,310 and the invoice price was $26,895.
