Replacing 1990 4Runner brake lines

Hello,

Does anyone in the group have any recommendations or comments with regard to replacing rusted out steel brake lines on a 1990 Toyota 4Runner?

I did some checking and found that there are stainless steel braided hoses available, which isn't what I need to replace, and also that there was a recall for this problem in Canada. In the recall it stated that due to road salt, the brake lines were prone to rust out. Do we use "different" salt here in the U.S. that doesn't promote the brake lines to rust out? It seems to me that Toyota has acknowledged a problem but limited it in scope.

I realize that I can go to any local autoparts store and purchase straight replacement steel lines and bend them myself to fit, but that's not quite as easy as using original factory bent ones. It also doesn't make any sense to replace just the one line that failed because the others can't be too far behind. I hesitate to think what a dealer would charge for all of them.

So, if anyone has any ideas as to what to use, where to buy, or any other suggestions, please post them here.

Thanks in advance to those who post a reply to the group.

Peter.

I think Toyota stocks pre-bent replacement lines. Try your local parts dealer or one of the internet places.
